Virtual Author Talk Mini Lessons
BookBreak offers Mini Lessons as part of our virtual author talk program for Elementary School students. Mini Lessons are 5-7 minute videos on a variety of topics that you can add into your lesson plans and share with your students in whatever ways work best for you. They feature authors, illustrators, and BookBreak Elementary Host Jazmin Castillo!
These include mini lessons that tie into Writing, ELA, SEL, Math, Social Studies, Art, and Library Skills. We have assigned grade levels to each mini lesson, but you know your students best! You have the flexibility of showing them to whichever students you think would benefit most.
And…..there are new mini lessons each semester!

Culture of Reading for Elementary School
Imagine if every student came to school talking about the books they are reading at home instead of the TV shows they are watching. Learning becomes easier at every level when students see reading as a joy instead of a chore. Fostering a culture of reading in school makes it easy for students and families to build reading habits at home which pays academic dividends for years to come. BookBreak has developed a comprehensive framework and platform to make implementing a culture of reading easy for elementary schools.
We provide the strategic resources to turn a community-wide promise into a reality, offering elements like conversation starters for families and seasonal activity kits that keep the momentum going during breaks. By making reading a shared, school-wide celebration, you ensure that every student's first steps in literacy are driven by curiosity and joy.
Author In Residence Program
In addition to our author talks, curriculum resources, and mini lessons, students in our elementary program have the opportunity to participate in 3 writing workshops with an author on writing a short story. These include short writing videos and live revisions of at least one student-submitted story.

The Author in Residence Program is designed to help the students develop creative writing skills and gain confidence in crafting unique narratives for short stories.
As we launch this new program for elementary schools, we are excited to share that Adam Rubin, author of Ice Cream Machine is our Author in Residence for Fall 2024!
With BookBreak, you can offer your elementary students the excitement of a live author event every month with a bestselling author and empower them to thrive as readers and writers. We provide ready-made comprehensive planning resources and activities, effortlessly integrate with teacher curricula and state standards. Our goal is to make it easy for educators to bring the magic of virtual author visits to their classrooms and libraries, and provide opportunities for positive impacts on students like these…..
